Repair or replace?
A water heater that stops working doesn't always need replacing. Many problems come down to one part: a thermostat, a heating element, a gas valve or an igniter. Mike tests the heater first and tells you what's wrong.
Replacement makes sense when the tank itself leaks, or when the heater is more than about 10 years old and keeps breaking down. At that point another repair rarely pays off. Either way, you get a flat price before we start, and we won't push a new heater you don't need.
Water heaters we work on
- Gas tank heaters, the type we see most
- Electric tank heaters
- Tankless (on-demand) heaters, gas and electric
- Heat pump water heaters
- Instant hot water dispensers at the sink
Keep it running longer
Central Jersey water carries minerals that settle at the bottom of the tank. That sediment makes the heater work harder and wears it out sooner. Flushing the tank once a year and checking the anode rod every few years add years to a heater's life. Read Mike's guide to water heater maintenance for what a tune-up covers.
