Plumbing in Hillsborough
Hillsborough doubled its population in the 1960s and kept growing fast through the 1990s. The median home in the township was built in 1986, and only about a third date from before 1980. That puts a lot of Hillsborough houses at the same stage: the first water heater, the original sump pump and the builder-grade fixtures are wearing out together.
Well water
Public water in Hillsborough comes from New Jersey American Water, but many homes still run on private wells. The township's Private Well Testing Act report looked at about 1,063 wells sampled between 2002 and 2022 and found roughly 21% over the state's arsenic standard. If you're on a well, test it, then treat for what the test finds. We install filtration and softening systems sized to the results, and we service well tanks and pressure switches.
We don't work on septic systems. If you have one and a drain is backing up, we'll tell you whether the problem is in the house plumbing or out at the septic tank.
Storms and the Millstone
Ida pushed the Millstone to 23.4 feet in 2021, 13 feet over flood stage and its second-highest crest on record. If your home is near the river or one of its brooks, test the sump pump every spring and add a battery backup.
